On my way home, one uneventful afternoon, and wondering why people in a bus looked so lonely in spite of the crowd ( not an unexplored theme at all) , I happened to see ,what I have since then in my head called, "The Lonely Grave" (Capital L an G ever present) .What first struck me was how green and aesthetic the place was and the next thing was how lonely the grave looked. Obscure and quiet, not claiming any recognition (there was no name on the headstone), someone was resting in peace there.Left alone.....Unsought after......
| Even in Death |
Death has always held an incredible fascination for me.It is the one experience that is absolutely one's own, something everyone has to deal with single handedly and inevitably. It is the one aspect of life which is still shrouded in mystery and speculation. The closest we can get to is near death experiences or paranormal entities but again , is there even an element of reality in these claims or are they merely desperate attempts of the human imagination to play the control freak in a no win situation ?So what happens after we die? Is Dante's Inferno or the Elizabethan Firmament for real? And the best part, who can tell us? If Descartes' "Cogito ergo sum" is what defines us all, do we cease to exist when we stop thinking? What about that undefinable part of one that one knows is not just the brain, the part which Science would never recognize, the part which makes us who we really are. Or is there something like that at all? Haven't you ever felt that you are trapped in a body from which you would love to break free ....for once and go roam the Universe...Be free of the endless hassles of your circumstances? Is that logic? And what about those little cherished pleasures of the ambiguous term "Life", like a hot cup of coffee and a nice, new book to read on a cold , rainy afternoon in one' s warm bed or that little feeling of elation when someone opens a present one spent months planning on and looks genuinely delighted....... Does the person in The Lonely Grave miss all this? I don't know .....Just take that leap of faith and go on living i guess.....till Death comes and maybe afterwards too .:)
